Gemstones for Healing — What to use?

So maybe you’re open to the idea of using gemstones for healing, but you’re wondering what should you use? Where should you start?

Our Biofield

The first thing you should know about this type of alternative medicine is that it works by interacting with our “biofield” which is a proposed field of energy that all living creatures and people have within and around us. This is sometimes called an aura or soul, for some. For others, this is understood as a series of chakras that act as centers of energy in our body. Others think of it as an extension of electromagnetic fields that we see and use every day, electromagnetic fields are all around us, produced by everything electronic, particularly those that deal with lots of electricity or signals, like computers and cell phones.

However you explain it, it’s useful to think of it as a system of vibrations. When our biofield is powered up we feel good and happy, but when it’s powered down, we feel bad and depressed. Good vibrations power our biofield and bad vibrations dull it. The whole goal with using gemstones for healing is finding gems, stones, metals, or other objects that have vibrations that feel good specifically for you. Your biofield is different from mine, so what works for me might not work for you. There are however some guidelines and general rules of thumb.

Why use gems and stones?

First of all, gems and stones that can be shown to emit negative ions are the single best option out there. The reason is that not only are these items emitting good vibrations, but they’re emitting good particles in the form of atoms that have a negative electric charge. These atoms enter our bodies and increase our body’s capacity to function well. In nature we’re surrounded by so many negative ions that our body never has to worry about needing more, but in cities with our concrete and metal homes and electronics, we tend to not be exposed to very many. So having a source of them should be a priority.

Choosing Gemstones

Start by trying the most popular solutions:

  • Amethyst
  • Obsidian
  • Rose quartz
  • Amber
  • Turquoise
  • Moonstone

All of the above are very common choices because they tend to have positive benefits for most people. Because of their wide appeal you can tend to get a good deal on these stones and try them out yourself. But it doesn’t matter if it works for everyone in the world except you, if it doesn’t work for you then you need to keep trying.

The last recommendation is to always go with your gut. If you pick something up that just feels right, it probably is. Conversely if something is nagging you, making you think that it’s not beneficial, then go ahead and skip it. But try things out in your own hand if possible, and wear it around your neck or in your pocket for a day for the best test. If something doesn’t work, then it doesn’t work, but using gemstones for healing requires a lot of patience and dedication.
